Media partnership
ullstein bild collection and Liebermann Villa
20 Years of the Liebermann Villa Museum on Lake Wannsee in Berlin and a new partnership with ullstein bild collection
______________________________________________________________
The Liebermann Villa on Lake Wannsee, maintained by the Max Liebermann Society Berlin e.V., is the former summer home of the artist Max Liebermann (1847–1935). It is the only authentic place where visitors can connect with the painter. In 1909, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by building his summer home on the lake. Not far from the city of Berlin, he created an idyllic retreat for himself and his family. This precious source of inspiration provided the backdrop for his numerous Impressionist garden paintings. After a turbulent history beginning in 1940, the house and garden were completely renovated at the initiative of the sponsoring association and opened to the public in 2006. Today, the villa houses an art museum dedicated to Max Liebermann and his era. The garden, which is a designated historic site, remains as it was in Liebermann’s time and is considered a leading example of the European garden reform movement.

ullstein bild in media partnership with the Liebermann Villa
To mark the anniversary year of 2026, the Liebermann Villa and the Ullstein Photography Collection at ullstein bild are entering into a media partnership that highlights the strengths and distinctive features of both institutions and collections: Ullstein houses numerous outstanding original photographs that explore Liebermann’s artistic personality and work in a wide variety of ways. Some of these exhibits were shown in 2023 as part of the exhibition Meeting Liebermann – Photo Portraits from the Ullstein Collection. Building on this highly successful exhibition collaboration, the year 2026 provides a fitting occasion for a new partnership. From now on, selected Ullstein photographs of Max Liebermann will play a prominent role in marking the museum’s 20th anniversary this year. Foremost among these is the new book, published just in time for the festive start of the anniversary celebrations: the museum’s own publication Haus. Kunst. Garten. We congratulate —join us in celebrating with the Liebermann Villa!
